I have heard of the cleansing programs and doing a detox program as a means of looking for a better way, so what is does it really mean? This was one of the best simple answers I found in Glickman's book about the Lemonade Diet, Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days. Many people are tired of not feeling their best and have a sense that they could feel better. It may be worth considering doing some sort of a cleanse to restore good health and well-being. Americans have become accustomed to not feeling their best, but the good news is there is something that can be done to feel better! When a person does a detox, or cleanse-type diet, she or he is mobilizing the toxins stored in various places in the body and then eliminating them. When they are mobilized, the person may become tired, feel pains or aches and be irritable. These symptoms are signs that something else exists and tell you that toxins have been mobilized. Next, they need to be eliminated. Once they are eliminated, most people you will feel better than before. This is the whole purpose of a cleanse or detox diet: to eliminate toxins so that you feel better and are healthier than you were before. “Detox” is short for detoxify - meaning to eliminate toxins (poisons). It comes from “de-” meaning down or away, “toxin” meaning poison, and “-ify” meaning to make or do. So, “detoxify” means to make poisons come out or away from the body. The toxins in our case are substances that your body can't absorb and use to rebuild the body. They actually harm your body's cells making you fat, tired, irritable or sick. It is important for anyone doing the Lemonade Diet or any other cleanse or detox to understand detoxification because it is the main purpose of doing a cleanse. Advocates of doing a cleansing program believe that toxins in the body can cause a variety of health problems, such as arthritis, allergies and asthma. It has been said that cleansing or doing a detox program like the Lemonade Diet removes these toxins. Thus promoting healthy intestinal bacteria; boosting your energy and enhancing your immune system, which would make anyone feel much better. While there is little scientific evidence to support or refute the benefits of colon cleansing, critics say it's generally unnecessary and at times may even be harmful. Although doctors prescribe colon cleansing as preparation for medical procedures such as colonoscopy, most don't recommend it for detoxification. Their reasoning is simple: The digestive system and bowel naturally eliminate waste material and bacteria — your body doesn't need enemas or special diets or pills to do this. However, I haven’t yet met a person who never drinks, smokes, or eats junk food and exercises enough. There is an unmistakable trend that has emerged in the last 10 years. It is the “green” trend, which promotes natural ways over chemical ways. There is now a greater amount of information — websites, articles and books —about a healthier way of life. The "green" trend seems to permeate almost every subject of life these days as the biggest, fastest growing and most encompassing subject of the last decade. This many people can’t be denied the obvious, they want to change for the better and they will find a way, as the old adage goes... where there is a will there is a way. That being said, go try the Lemonade Diet, do the colon cleanse, eat those organic veggies and frown at the artificial ingredients in our foods. You go America! Beat your drum! Sound your horn! We will emerge better people. For more FREE Information, Recipes and a newsletter all about the Lemonade Diet click here |

Heart disease is currently the number one cause of death in America. Linus Pauling, Ph.D., the only man to ever win two unshared Nobel Prizes in all of history, wrote his groundbreaking book, Vitamin C and the Common Cold, in March 1971. In the following decade, vitamin C consumption in the US increased 300% and heart disease decreased 30% simultaneously! A 1955 article in the Journal of Dental Research (Vol. 34: Page 750) demonstrated that vitamin C given to children with significant gum disease was able to clearly improve the condition. (Stop America's #1 Killer, Thomas Levy, MD, JD, Livon Books, Henderson, NV, 2006) A scientific study done at Tufts University, reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that vitamin C consumption by women for 10 years or more reduced the risk of cataracts by more than 75% compared with women who did not take vitamin C. A 2001 article in Lancet, the British medical journal [Vol. 357 (9257): Pages 657-663], reported that people with high vitamin C levels in their blood had only one half the risk of death from all diseases compared to those with low vitamin C levels. The researchers concluded that increasing daily fruits and vegetables just 3 oz. a day could result in a 20% reduction in death from all diseases! (Stop America's #1 Killer, Thomas Levy, MD, JD, Livon Books, Henderson, NV, 2006) So, make one of your Father's Day presents to someone you love the gift of this knowledge. It could make a wonderful difference to the lives of those you love. |
