Your Amazing Liver - Keep It Clean & HealthyThis is a featured page

A normal healthy liver weighs about three pounds, yet it is responsible for more than 500 chemical roles for your body. The liver is so important that even if up to 80% of it were to be removed, it would only take about three months for it to grow back to its original size.

The liver is the third most important organ, after the heart and lungs. The body is able to function without much issue with as little as a sixth of your liver. Because the liver is designed in this way, it is usually hard to determine if the liver is damaged until the damage is advanced.

The liver is an amazing organ. It is responsible for making ¾ of your total cholesterol, which is used to produce hormones and bile salts, can store as much as a liter of excess blood for use in times of blood loss or heavy exercise. Your liver aids in detoxifying incompletely digested proteins, excess hormones, drugs, food additives, poisons, etc. The liver can break down and help absorb vitamins A, D, E and K, converts beta-carotene to vitamin A and store excess vitamin A, B-12, D, K and iron. It filters out bacteria in the blood from the intestines, converts ammonia into urea for kidney excretion and is capable of synthesizing up to 4 ounces of glucose daily, when needed, such as during fasting or diabetes. Your liver is also responsible for reducing blood sugar swings up to 65%. Without our liver, we would not survive.

Making sure the liver is not overburdened and working at its peak is critical to good health. A good cleanse, such as the Lemonade Diet, can be of tremendous help by detoxifying stored poisons and other injurious substances in the body to help the liver, along with our other detoxifying organs, work more efficiently at what they do best. Because the Lemonade Diet focuses on cleaning the major cleaning organs, such as the liver, kidney and colon, it is an excellent means to maintain a healthy body.

According to Chinese medicine, the liver works the hardest between the hours of 1 and 3 am, while we sleep, to filter the blood. If the liver is congested, a significant amount of blood may be retained in the liver on arising. Exercising in the early morning, as well as stretching and deep breathing exercises helps get the blood moving out of the liver into circulation and strengthens the liver. Symptoms of a congested liver may include stiffness, numbness in the fingers or dizziness due to lack of circulation.
